G3 Ch 4 – The right one?

Chrysanta stared at the fire, the business district wasn’t much better for meeting people and she was bored. Looking around she saw a small sign taped into the window of the business office, “Coffee Courier Wanted”, the sign had been there for a week now. “Well it would be something to do.” She muttered to the air.

Ten minutes later she was back outside feeling slightly disappointed. The position had already been filled but no-one had bothered to take the sign down. The secretary suggested the sports center they could always use someone. So Chrysanta decided to give it a shot, she had nothing to loose from trying.

On her way home Kimberly flagged her down and invited her inside for a little bit. Chrysanta decided it would be nice to talk to Kimberly some more and stopped in. She was surprised by how big her cousins had gotten and was glad to see that Kendra was over her cough, she noticed that John had his dad’s ears, she talked to Isidro for a little bit and then asked where Marcie was pointing out that was her only cousin she hadn’t met yet. Kimberly laughed and said she would meet Marcie eventually, but currently she was over at a friends house. Talking just a little longer Chrysanta said she was getting hungry and needed to get home, Kimberly thanked her for visiting and wished her luck with the new job.

A few nights later over dinner she was telling Cadeyrn how big their cousins were getting when she realized he wasn’t as animated as usual, Chrysanta stopped describing the triplets and asked him what was wrong.

“The council rejected our application. Anna and I won’t be permitted to marry or live together, Chrysanta what are we to do we love each other so much. We want a family of our own”  ……………….. “we feel so lost right now. We were certain that we would be given permission.”

Chrysanta murmured words of sympathy to him, she didn’t have the heart to tell him that she agreed with the council. The way Ms. LeBlanc acted sometimes was very scarey and she wasn’t sure that she wanted a wolf person in the family.

Waking up and finding the house empty Chrysanta decided that Cadeyrn must have left to hang out with Anna. Despite the councils rejection they still spent as much time together outside of work as they could. Chrysanta wondered sometimes why he didn’t bring Anna over to the house, unless he had picked up on her hesitancy about wolf people or werewolves as he had corrected her on several occasions.

“Didn’t he remember the story’s they used to get told when they were little, before their mom hadn’t gotten so busy with her job. Granted the tales had been cautionary tales about vampires but the same had to be true of anything with fangs ……. didn’t it?”

Chrysanta mused out loud to herself as she jogged to work. This was part of why she enjoyed jogging, it gave her time and space away from people to work out anything that was bothering her.

Work was so-so in her book, she thought she would give the job another week before moving on. The soup kitchen had just hung a help wanted sign, maybe she would try them next.

One clear weekend morning when Chrysanta was jogging to the square she saw a man in unusual clothes out front of the school. She couldn’t say what made her stop, but she did walking over she introduced herself to him. Chrysanta learned that his name was Ahmad Massri, he was visiting on a work permit to learn how they were running their school.

They were chatting away when suddenly a strong urge to kiss Ahmad overwhelmed Chrysanta. Ahmad was taken back and yelled at her for being so forward. Blushing Chrysanta apologized telling him she didn’t know what had overcome her. Her head was spinning what had overcome her, feeling humiliated she quickly said goodbye and headed over to the park.

Ahmad’s spicy scent lingered with her as she walked, teasing her senses and leaving her with the urge to run back and kiss him again. Chrysanta shook herself, that would only alienate him further up until she had acted like a fool and so unlike herself they had been getting along very well, she hoped that she could get back on his good side and that they could be friends.

Chrysanta ran into Ahmad a few more times, and was able to reconnect with him as a friend. That there would never be anything more for them Ahmad made clear not just with his words but how he stood just a little bit back and sideways when they talked. From what she learned of his culture from him she thought she understood a little bit.

A month later when she met Dan Deeman, when she felt the urge to hug him she managed to restrain herself. Chrysanta had learned her lesson with Ahmad or so she hoped, just because she thought Dan might make a good addition to her life didn’t mean she should rush into anything.

Anytime they bumped into each other they talked and Chrysanta was feeling confident in their friendship, but could there be more than that for them? She knew he was single, and he found her attractive, was he the one?
